First Look: SIGMA I series new additions

In December 2020, SIGMA launched the new I series within the Contemporary line. Four premium compact primes for mirrorless users that combines superb optical performance with a level of compactness. There four lenses make for the perfect lightweight and compact setup, perfectly matched to the more compact systems without sacrificing performance. All I series lenses also have an all-metal construction, which not only gives them a sleek, stylish finish, but provide superb durability.

Before presenting the new additions to the I series, we want to remind you of the first four I series lenses:
SIGMA 24mm F3.5 DG DN | C is the wide-angle prime with exceptional detail and beautiful bokeh.
SIGMA 35mm F2 DG DN | C is the classic wide standard that brings you new creative possibilities.
SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN | C with its admirably balanced performance and size, and rugged build quality.
SIGMA 65mm F2 DG DN | C is the ultra-sharp and compact short telephoto prime that offers a stunning photographic experience.

The I series is growing, with two brand new additions launching today, with sales start on 24 September 2021. This means that the complete I series line-up will consist of a total of six lenses ranging from 24mm to 90mm. The all-new 24mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary delivers exceptional edge-to-edge rendering power in an ultra-compact, all-metal body. Designed from the ground up for mirrorless systems, it has an advanced optical design that produces shartp, high-contrast results from the center of the frame to the far corners. Joining the existing I series 24mm F3.5, but this has a F2 aperture that makes this wide-angle an excellent choice for night sky photography, landscapes, events and interiors. Swedish street photographer Mats Alfredsson went out for an afternoon to try this new lens out, and he really liked the high-quality feeling of the design, and the fact that he now could use the light and compact I series 24mm with a F2 aperture.

Swedish street photographer Mats Alfredsson went out for an afternoon to try this new lens out, and he really liked the high-quality feeling of the design, and the fact that he now could use the light and compact I series 24mm with a F2 aperture. 

"- For me as a street photographer, the F2 aperture is priceless. That means that I can use the lens in a much wider range of lighting conditions. Thanks to the focal length of 24mm, I have the possibilities to create a more present expression in my photos. That is, to get closer, but still have a wider section.", Mats says.

The SIGMA 24mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary combines the highest level of optical performance even at its maximum aperture of F2 and a well-balanced body. It is designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras and is full-frame compatible. Weighing only 365g, it is easy to bring with you everywhere you go.

This wide-angle prime is perfect for landscape photography, street photography, events and interiors, but thanks to the F2 aperture it is also perfect for night sky photography.

This versatile mid-telephoto focal length is ideal for day-to-day use, thanks to it´s remarkable compactness with a length of only 59.7mm!

Who is the 90mm F2.8 for?

The SIGMA 90mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary boasts exceptional optical performance with an ultra-high resolving power to match the latest high-resolution mirrorless cameras. 

It offers superb optical performance, a bright F2.8 aperture and an all-metal build. Weighing only 295g, it is incredibly compact and perfect to bring everywhere for weddings and events. The rich, smooth bokeh makes for attractive backgrounds, which is perfect for portraits. With its minimum focusing distance of 50 cm, it allows photographers to get closer to their subject for some great close-ups.


Whether you're shooting a beautiful landscape, some cool portraits, in-action street photography or capturing everyday life, the SIGMA I series has a lens for you. Thanks to its lightweight and compact form, they are easy to bring with you everywhere you go and you can get a complete set-up without sacrificing portability.
